Thomas P. Vecchio

Thomas P. Vecchio was born in Olean, New York, where he graduated from high school in 1982. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1987 from the State University of New York College at Geneseo.

Mr. Vecchio graduated from Stetson University College of Law in May 1992, and became licensed to practice law in Florida in October 1992. As a law student, Mr. Vecchio was the recipient of the Wehle Trial Advocacy Award and Best Oral Advocate Award. He was a member of Stetson’s ATLA Mock Trial Team that won a state-wide competition in 1991.

Mr. Vecchio’s practice has been comprised exclusively of insurance defense litigation, representing carriers in first party property claims, automobile negligence actions and premises liability claims in the state circuit courts. Mr. Vecchio has focused his practice to defense of self-insured employers and workers’ compensation carriers in industrial claims before the Judges of Compensation Claims, the First District Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Florida. He is a member of the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Florida Bar, and has served as a guest lecturer for continuing adjuster education seminars sponsored by Workers’ Compensation Claims Professionals. Mr. Vecchio is a member of the Workers’ Compensation and Employment Law Committees of the Defense Research Institute. Mr. Vecchio has also received the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation conferred by the Insurance Institute of America. His concentration was in commercial insurance policies and coverage.

Mr. Vecchio was Board Certified in Workers’ Compensation by the Florida Bar in 2002. In 2004, Mr. Vecchio was appointed to serve on the Rules Committee formed by the Division of Administrative Hearings for purposes of drafting and revising the Rules of Procedure for Workers’ Compensation Adjudications. Mr. Vecchio was designated Chairman of the Subcommittee on Pre-Trial Procedure, Discovery, and Motion Practice. From 2007 to 2013, Mr. Vecchio served on the Workers’ Compensation Certification Committee, which is responsible for development, administration, and grading of the Workers’ Compensation Board Certification Examination.  Mr. Vecchio was designated a Florida Super Lawyer in 2008.  In 2017, Mr. Vecchio was appointed to the Executive Council of the Workers’ Compensation Section of The Florida Bar.  The Executive Council represents the approximate 1600 members of The Florida Bar who are most heavily engaged in workers’ compensation litigation.

Mr. Vecchio has represented his clients throughout the state in complex infectious disease claims, Heart & Lung/government employee presumption claims, coverage disputes, equitable distribution proceedings, and catastrophic injury cases.  He has also represented his clients before the First District Court of Appeal on numerous occasions, often culminating in oral argument before the Court.  Mr. Vecchio has handled appeals which have resulted in 15 published opinions.
