Ms. Curtis obtained her juris doctorate from Stetson University College of Law in St. Petersburg, Florida, and has been practicing law in the field of workers’ compensation for 19 years. After her admission to the Florida Bar, Ms. Curtis worked for a small, private law firm where her practice consisted primarily of the defense of workers’ compensation claims and appeals. Ms. Curtis has also worked as in-house counsel for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, and for a private defense firm which focused on defending staff leasing companies and Professional Employment Organizations. In 2009, Ms. Curtis joined VCFJ Law where she represents employers and carriers exclusively in workers’ compensation claims and first and third party insurance claims. Ms. Curtis handles a wide variety of workers’ compensation claims including those involving coverage disputes, occupational exposure and repetitive trauma claims, catastrophic and death claims, subrogation/lien recovery, governmental employees and First Responder Presumption claims. Ms. Curtis has appeared before Judges of Compensation Claims around the State, and has also argued numerous appeals before the First District Court of Appeals. She was also recently nominated for final consideration by the governor for a judicial position in the Lakeland District as the Judge of Compensation Claims.
